Welcome to AstracorASTRACOR was established in 2006 to offer training and advocacy to construction workers. With support from community and business leaders and a grant from the Governor of Virginia through the state Workforce Investment Act, ASTRACOR has initiated a successful training and certification program – with hundreds of workers trained to date and almost two thousand members certified in accordance with their verifiable trade skills. ASTRACOR has also successfully become a clearinghouse for minorites and immigrants who seek career information, construction training, job placement, and/or support services; and has partnered with government and charitable organizations in collaborative and creative on-the-job training programs which rehabilitate affordable housing units in the Northern Virginia area. In the Fall of ‘08, ASTRACOR moved to its next level with a new Executive Director in order to begin its growth and expansion - affiliating, collaborating and partnering with state agencies, Virginia Workforce System, regional Workforce Investment Boards, Skill Source Centers, employment service agencies and non-profits who conduct workforce development, employment and training or associated support services. This direction allows ASTRACOR to develop innovative methods and combine them with proven best practices in order to implement initiatives and programs which will enhance the career development and earning capacity of our members via training, support services, information resources, assistance and advocacy. |
